Mountain Visions

Boise, Idaho

Gary is a native of Idaho and has live in the state for 50 years. He was born in Soda Springs, and graduated with a master’s degree in Psychology/Education from Idaho State University. He did Post graduate work at the University of Oregon while co-founding an Outdoor Recreation/Environmental Program that initiated a Common Adventure Bulletin Board. This analog experimental networking system was subsequently adopted by other colleges and communities in North America. He also served as an Assistant Professor in the school of Community Service and Public Affairs during the late 1960′s and 70′s. During this time he helped coordinate major environmental cleanup projects on Mt. Mckinley in Alaska and on the Lower Salmon River in Idaho. He was also involved in the organization of national conferences on Wilderness Use Ethics and Wilderness and Individual Freedom.

A partner in Mountain Visions starting in 1979, he produced and toured with Mountain Visions multimedia concerts, and presented Common Adventure networking and photography workshops throughout North America in the early 1980′s. In 1987 Gary proposed the development of a computerized information and communication network concept for 6 western centennial states celebrations, including Idaho, taking place in 1989 and 1990. Subsequently he produced dozens of community based and natural resource environmental multimedia media projects during the 80′s and 90′s, often creating graphic maps for project locations. Mountain Visions also was among of the first wave of organizations in Idaho to become involved in producing interactive web sites at the beginning of 1995.

This work on the Internet quickly evolved into creating interactive Geo maps, and web site networking opportunities for many local, community, state and federal organizations in the U.S.. Gary has dedicated much of his life participating in and learning about community networking opportunities and the value of place based geographic information and photography. He has been involved in the activities of the Idaho Environmental Summit for the past three years and will share his knowldege about ongoing GeoWeb and Environmental Networking concepts on this web site and during presentations at the 2008 meeting.
